Our
underlying goal is to produce healthier food whilst reducing our
reliance and usage of chemicals for the benefit of our customers
and the environment. The activities on the farm fall under three
main areas: farming, contract
farming and livestock.
Livestock
Livestock
are back after a gap of 15 years. We have introduced a herd of Pedigree
Aberdeen Angus that live outside all year, feeding on river valley
grass in the summer and on rotational grass & silage in the
winter. Only bulls that are DNA tested for eating quality and are
top grade are used in the herd. These cattle are being marketed
as a premium product, and we are planning to expand the herd
considerably.
We also run a small Dun Galloway suckler herd on Grove Farm, our hill farm in the Lake District. These are marketed to supply the local speciality butchers shops in the area.
