A
wide crop rotation is used (usually 10 years) in which Potatoes
and Carrots are only grown once along with other crops including
cereals, and fertility building grass, clover and brassica breaks.
Cultivations
have changed to include non-inversion techniques, and if ploughing
neccesary it is only carried out
at
shallow depths (no more than 20 cm) so as to try not to break down
the fertility we are building.
Organic
fertliser is used as we have re-introduced sheep and cattle onto
the land. In addition carefully calculated rates of artificial fertilisers
are added to slowly redress the imbalances that have occured in
the past 40 years.
