The People
The Howard Family started farming at Little Morton in 1888, after a short move across the fields from Botany Bay farm in Babworth. Originally tenants on the Ranby House and Elkesley Estate, Edward and Annie Howard bought the farm at auction in November 1948 when the estate was sold off.

They had two children, Robert and Harry, and together formed the partnership of E.J Howard and Sons. Harry married Joy and moved to Manor Farm, Gamston and continued to farm with his son Michael. Robert married Lorna and eventually formed the partnership of R.E. Howard and Sons as it stands today. Robert passed away in 2000 and Max, Ross and Andrew continue the partnership.

The Land
The farm was enclosed late on in years, as it is very sandy and prone to drought. To maintain the fertility of the soil a simple crop rotation was followed, which included grass, cereals (barley and oats) and root crops (potatoes, sugar beet, turnips and swedes).
